Marketing Off the Book Shelf

I'm not just a writer, I am also a singer. I spend half my time writing new words and the other half memorizing old ones. I sing songs from the 1940s through the 1980s (a few from this century). My musical audience is generally geared toward senior citizens. When I first began marketing SWEET TEA, a Novel geared to young adult readers, I thought about how my new book would interest my senior citizen audience and still appeal to my targeted one.
After some great discussions, I discovered my young adult novel is also interesting to my young-at-heart "senior citizen" readers because it takes place in the 1980s. The book shares some true events that took place that made an impact in the world of music, as well as in my book. Though the protagonist is sixteen and the MC certainly has her teen struggles, the book is also about a family's issues, and every family has them. It also reminded them what life was like in their youth, and offered an opportunity to share a conversation and a book with their teen kids.
Now, I'm looking for a book home for my newest novel, which takes place in the 1950s. I do believe that once again, my "seniors" will connect. Therefore, I don't feel it is necessary to label myself an author for "only" young adults; I am simply a novelist.
